Child safety standards
Hexagon Private Messenger · the operator of Hexagon Private Messenger · Last updated: 22 October 2026
Our standard. Hexagon does not tolerate child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) of any kind: child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sexual extortion (sextortion), trafficking, or any sexualisation or endangerment of minors. Accounts involved are banned and the matter is reported to the authorities.
1. Who can use Hexagon
Hexagon is for people aged 16 and over (Terms of Service, section 1). It is not directed at children and is not part of any family or children's programme. Because we collect no phone number, e-mail address or identity document, we do not verify ages.
2. What is prohibited
- Creating, sharing, requesting or storing child sexual abuse material, including drawn, computer-generated or AI-generated material that sexualises minors.
- Contacting a minor for sexual purposes (grooming), sexual extortion, and offering or arranging the sexual exploitation or trafficking of a child.
- Any other use of Hexagon that endangers children or breaks child-protection law.
3. How to report
If a child is in immediate danger, call the local emergency number first (112 in the European Union).
- In the app: open the chat → menu (⋮) → Report, or open the contact's profile → Report. Choose a reason (for child abuse: Illegal content) and add details if you can. You can tick Include the last 5 messages as plaintext: those messages are then sent from your device, as text, with the report. You can also block the person, so they can no longer message or call you.
- By e-mail: [OWNER DATA NEEDED: child-safety contact e-mail]. Please include the Hexagon ID of the account concerned. Do not send us abuse images — describe what you saw; we will ask the authorities to secure the evidence.
- You can also report directly to the police or to a national hotline of the INHOPE network.
4. What we do with a report
- We review reports that concern children with priority.
- We ban the accounts involved: a banned account can no longer sign in, send messages or make calls.
- We report child sexual abuse material and children at risk to the competent law-enforcement authorities, and we cooperate with lawful requests from authorities, as the law requires.
- Reports about an account are kept for up to 12 months even if that account is deleted, so that evidence cannot be erased by deleting the account.
5. What we can and cannot do — honestly
Hexagon is end-to-end encrypted. This protects everyone, and it limits what we can do:
- We cannot read messages or see photos, videos, voice messages or files, and we do not scan them. We see content only when a participant of a conversation forwards it to us in a report — and then only what the reporter chose to include (the last messages as text; photos, videos and files are not included).
- What we can hand to the authorities is the report itself and the limited data our server holds about an account: its Hexagon ID, display name, public keys, contact and group memberships, the times, sizes and types of its encrypted messages and its call records while they exist (see the Privacy Policy, section 3). We do not have phone numbers, e-mail addresses, real names or message contents, and our access logs contain no IP addresses.
- What we can do to an account is warn, suspend or ban it. We cannot delete messages that are already on other people's devices.
6. Compliance
We comply with the child-safety laws that apply to us. We report child sexual abuse material to the authorities and cooperate with them. These standards are part of our Terms of Service; breaking them leads to the account being banned.
7. Child-safety contact
For authorities, hotlines and child-protection organisations: [OWNER DATA NEEDED: child-safety contact — name and e-mail]. We answer such requests without delay.
